The intro is actually played in open D major (DADF#AD) however the 3rd string isn't used in the intro so altering the tuning to (DADGAD) won't affect how it sounds. You just need to use your spare fingers on your right hand to mute the G string if you find it 'bleeding' out. Using open Dsus4 tuning also allows the rest of the main guitar part to be played more ergonomically with the slide still attached. If kept in open D major tuning some bends become unpractical short of a completely different arrangment. I also took some creative liberties with the chord voicings for the chorus.
Just Bend the note a whole step and pick each note before releasing on the next bar.
