Tuning (low to high) D-A-D-G-B-E, however Lindsey tunes his guitar down half a step then places his capo on the 4th fret. Other then this, there are no other tabor written sheet music on the internet or in any books has accurately transcribed this brilliant song by Lindsey.Sadly, to this day, all other tabs, even video lessons by Lick Library and others have also gotten this song wrong. How did I discover the correct tab? I did two things. One I listened and watched Lindsey playing this song many times in many speeds. I then looking into his music routes and saw that he was a major travis fingerpicker and has been all his life. He never used a pick on stage. Once you begin looking into the artists playing style and musical back ground, its only then you can begin to workout and transcribe their music. Checkout Lindsey's Guitar World video lesses on Landslide and this song. They are on youtube. When you watch and hear Lindsey play this song he plays it so effortlessly and with passion. How? Travis picking. One rule of travis picking is less is more. When learning this song always remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Okay lets look at the realy music to this song. Its good to compare the official released sheet music to this one ive created. You will see how much easyier this version is and authentic it is to what he's actually playing. When you are playing and singing songs like this its important that you keep the playing machanical. Like a an engine that just keeps running without any thought from you. In Travis music the thumb is picking the bass notes on the beat. Fingers one and two of the right hand alternates on the treble strings, normally on the G and B strings however there is no fixed rule so you could use 3 fingers one assigned to each treble string. The basic patten here is this. Once tuned with Low E to D, with you left hand hold down the D chord as follows, Index bars the D, G, B and E strings at the 2nd fret. Your second finger holds down the string on fret 3 and your 3rd finger holds down the D string at the 4th fret. See this music to get the picture. All the fretting hand is doing in opening bars is holding down the bar chord and hammering on and off your 2nd and 3rd fingers. So D chord pulls off to a A Chord then ack onto make the D chord. Okay thats the left hand sorted. Your picking hand is doing this, Thumb is altenating on 3 the bass strings on the 4/4 beat. Remember we always count One & Two & Three & Four. One the numbers were alternate the bass notes from bottom E string to D then to A then back to D then back to the start on the E starting off the next bar. Now, remember with travis picking we hit the treble notes with fingers 2 and 3 either on the beat with the bass or on the & count. If you again look at the music iber written you will see what I mean. So now lets just practise the basic picking of the song. So on D chord and on the first beat (try tapping yor foot to the beat as you go along) its thumb on the bass E string fowllowed by 1st finger picking the G string then thumb picking the D string followed by 2nd finger picking the B string string. Then thumb picks the A string then the fingers repeat the above, so 1st finger picks the G string then thumb picking the D string followed by 2nd finger picking the B string. Thats the 1st bar done. Just keep repeating this finger patten until it come second nature to you. Start slow, remeber slow is smooth and smooth is fast. When not using my 3rd and 4th fingers i rest them on the guitar board similar to Mark Knopfler. Check out how he rests these fingers on youtube. Once you have this mastered you will be able to play the intro until you come to the section where the 3rd finger is introduced. In this section you can see the thumb is keeping the beat still (4/4) however your fingers are doing 3/3. So this will take some more practise at a very slow speed. So first just learn the treble parts assigning each finger to a treble string. Once you have mastered this section yo will be able to apply both travis picking styles throughout the song.
