Australia's premiere extreme metal export THY ART IS MURDER will release its fourth full-length album, "Dear Desolation", the album will be released on August 18th through the juggernaut Nuclear Blast Records.
Guitarist Andy Marsh had said the following to Metal Wani:
“We’ve finished writing. We got together a couple of months ago, Sean and I, and we spent a few weeks writing after a tour, and we did it for three or four weeks. We’ve written a record. Now we just got to record the damn thing. We’re excited for it. We’ve topped ourselves. When we think about our music, obviously, in our heads, we think about CJ’s voice singing over it. So, having him coming back, at the end of us writing a record, it made us excited to go and record it and hear it the way we imagined hearing it. The fans, obviously, their idea of the band is with CJ singing in the band. We shared that vision, that idea also. Our band is like a small family and the way we imagine hearing our own music and how we craft the product is with that end goal in mind. It’s definitely exciting to know we can get the sound that we want. Obviously, we’d like to have the record out this year, 2017. A lot of work goes into recording and getting the artwork, lyrics, and recording it, and making videos. So, it’s a pretty lengthy process. I guess we better start working on it pretty soon.”
He explains the album title: "'Dear Desolation' was the easiest way to sum up the new record, and some of the issues we talked about. With lyrics ranging from extinction level events, to mortality's interaction with morality, 'Dear Desolation' seemed like an appropriate address toward nothingness, a call into the abyss from which we might not hear an answer."
THY ART IS MURDER has also announced a fall 2017 European headlining tour, kicking off on September 29 in Munich, Germany.
Commented the band: "We are super stoked to return to Europe, and this time with more U.K. dates than we have played in a very long time. For too long we have neglected the U.K. and we are going to make up for it in style. Joining us on our album headlining tour will be our great friends and ridiculously heavy bands, AFTER THE BURIAL, OCEANO and Australian blackened hardcore juggernauts JUSTICE FOR THE DAMNED. We can't wait to bring our new record to the road, and this will mark the very first leg of the 'Dear Desolation' world tour."
"Dear Desolation" will mark THY ART IS MURDER's first full-length release since vocalist C.J. McMahon rejoined the band this past January.
McMahon blamed his drug addiction for his departure from the group and has vowed to move forward as "a new man." He wrote on his Instagram account: "You made me a rock star, you made me a God, you made me immortal. I owe my fans everything. I made myself a drug addict, I made myself a liar, I made myself lose and destroy friendships, I made my family and friends hurt. I come back to the world a new man who, with my closest friends (THY ART IS MURDER), will prove that we are the greatest, strongest, and most powerful force in metal, I will take no prisoners, we will crush all charts and expectations. We will take over the game and raise the bar so no one will touch it or us. I am C.J. McMahon and I will stand as a king with my brothers for the rest of time."
To cement McMahon's return to his rightful throne, the band released a brand new song titled "No Absolution".
THY ART IS MURDER's third album, "Holy War", entered the official Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) chart at position No. 7 — the highest-ever position for an Australian extreme metal act. The Sydney-based band has generated controversy for the strong anti-religious stance of the title track's video, as well as the album cover which features references to a suicide bomber.
