A mixed bag of mostly live tracks featuring over the top flaming guitar leads, Guitar Gods: The Classic Rock Anthems somehow adds up to way less than its title. There are some high spots, certainly, like hearing Roger Daltrey sing Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy" with guitar support from Slash, or Leslie West cut loose on "Blood of the Sun" with Michael Schenker, or Rick Derringer plow through yet another version of his "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo," but for the most part there is more bombast than real fire here. Besides, how can you call an anthology Guitar Gods and not include anything by Jimi Hendrix?
