This is Riz Ortolani's excellent soundtrack to Cannibal Holocaust - Ruggero Deodato's notoriously graphic gut-munching shocker from 1980. The Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack is a wonderfully eclectic affair which mixes a variety of styles that - if you didn't know the contents of the movie - you wouldn't guess comes from the stomach-turner that is Cannibal Holocaust. For the Main Theme, Ortolani serves up a lovely gentle melody that, although a beautiful piece of music, is somewhat at odds with what's about to follow on-screen. And that's what makes Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack so great. For the rest of the Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack, Ortolani uses a full arsenal of musical styles and arrangements (including electronics!) to convey a variety of emotions including sadness (Adulteress' Punishment), frivolity (Cameramen's Recreation) and introspection (Crucified Woman). And if that wasn't enough - our boy Riz only goes and gives us a great lounge track (Relaxing in the Savana) and the fantastically jazzy "Drinking Coco" too!
