Searching for the Jan Soul Rebels showcases Jan Delay's nonchalant, nasal flow over duly laid-back reggae rhythms. A fair portion of the time, Delay sounds as if he’s barely present -- not merely in the sonic sense, but in the mental sense as well -- as if he’s thinking about spending some quality time with a hammock. This is part of his charm, actually, and has the odd effect of drawing the listener into his lines.
